“Little Kids Rock Across America,” Sponsored by the Dr. Phil Foundation, Offers Innovative Music Education Program and Free Instruments to 1,200 Minneapolis Schoolchildren
Leading music charity donates more than $150k-worth of instruments and resources to Minneapolis Public Schools.
Minneapolis, MN, Feb. 28, 2011 — More than 1,200 Minneapolis Public School students will be rockin’ and rollin’ soon, thanks to a donation of more than $150,000-worth of instruments, music education resources, and an innovative curriculum created by a national nonprofit called Little Kids Rock. 22 Minneapolis Public School teachers will attend the free, two-day workshop that will bring an acclaimed music program to their schools amidst budget cuts that have stripped music programs from schools in Minneapolis and nationwide.
Little Kids Rock, a leading nonprofit provider of free musical instruments and teacher trainings to U.S. public schools, has teamed up with the Dr. Phil Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to helping children and families across the nation, to launch a collaborative, band-focused music education program called “Little Kids Rock Across America.” The partnership, announced in December 2009, has already brought free instruments and music lessons to nearly 28,500 underprivileged children in eight cities. The ninth city, New Orleans, received a donation of 150k-worth of instruments and resources in February.
“Every teacher could have been doing a million things this weekend, but instead they chose to come here and get trained to help these kids,” Dr. Phil said. “I’ve often said - if they’re going to join something, I’d rather it be a band than a gang.”
Media are invited to attend the two-day workshop.
