CHICAGO, IL – Little Kids Rock, a nonprofit organization that brings music into the classrooms of economic disadvantaged youth, is expanding its successful Chicago program launched last year.
This next phase will train more than 30 volunteer Chicago public school teachers to teach music; add 400 new guitars and cases; and enrich an addition 1,000 public school kids by bringing music into their lives. Also included in the session is the cutting-edge Little Kids Rock curriculum, hundreds of Start to Rock guitar lesson CD-ROMS, Band in a Box computer software, Little Kids Rock student folders, access to their online network of Little Kids Rock teachers across the country, and much more.
"The teachers will receive 16 hours of professional development time and training for free, and then go on to teach music to the kids in their school," says David Wish, founder of Little Kids Rock. "We were excited to land in Chicago last year, and pleased the program will further expanded so that it reaches more kids. Nothing is cooler than seeing the kids’ faces light up when they first start rocking out, and that’s what we’re all about."
The schools that will benefit include: Hitch Elementary School, Chappell Elementary School, South Shore School of Entrepreneurship, Kilmer Elementary School, Mather High School, Dever Elementary School, Kershaw Elementary School, Namaste Charter School, Perspectives Charter School, South Loop Elementary School, Woodlawn Community School, Multicultural Arts School, F.W. Reilly Elementary School, Von Humboldt Community School, Donoghue Charter School, Manuel Perez School, Portage Park Elementary School, Kohn Elementary School, Ryerson Elementary School, Boone Elementary School, Morgan Park High School, Monroe Elementary School, Phillip Rogers Elementary School, and Brighton Park Elementary School.
