Thrilled Music Students Get Meet-and-Greet
with Pop Singer at Concert
October 11, 2005 – San Francisco – Little
Kids Rock (LKR), an innovative non-profit program that provides free
instruments and music classes to children, announced today that Emmy-nominated
actor and platinum singing sensation Jesse McCartney accepted a seat
on LKR’s honorary board at a benefit concert called “Music
Matters”. Radio Disney hosted the event in Concord on Friday, September
9th. Mr. McCartney joins other notable Honorary Board members Bonnie
Raitt, Paul Simon, BB King, Jason Newstead, Les Paul, Dave Mason, Brad
Nelson, of Linkin Park, and pitcher Al Leiter.
A few lucky Sherman Elementary School students
and their LKR teacher enjoyed a backstage visit before
the concert. The excited fans had the opportunity to meet
McCartney and to present him with an LKR award certificate
thanking him for his enthusiastic support.
“This is an awesome program. Learning how to play
a musical instrument can have a big impact on someone’s
life. When I heard about Little Kids Rock I knew I had
to participate,” said McCartney, upon accepting
his honorary appointment to the LKR Board.
“Our students absolutely love Jesse McCartney
and he is a real role model for them!” said Dave
Wish, Executive Director and founder. “His support
really underscores the importance of keeping music where
it belongs – in our schools! Music programs are
being slashed from public school budgets at an alarming
rate, so it’s wonderful to team up with a member
of the music community who understands the significance
of ‘giving back’ “.

About Little Kids Rock
Little Kids Rock believes that music is a critical component
of a first-rate education. At this time, tens of millions
of school kids are getting no music education whatsoever
as a result of budget cuts that have stripped the schools
of their programs. These cuts have had a disproportionately
large impact on children from low-income backgrounds.
Little Kids Rock restores music to its rightful place
in the academic lives of kids in our public schools by
providing a rich music education program including instrument
instruction, free instruments and trained mentors. Founded
by a single elementary school teacher in 1996, Little
Kids Rock now serves thousands of students in CA, NY,
NJ, TN. Visit this link to learn more about Little Kids
