Liberty DeVitto Visits Bronx Class!
Ever wonder
what it would be like to get a drum lesson from one
of the most listened-to
drummers in rock history? Well, some Little
Kids Rock students could tell you what
that’s like. On May
24th, Liberty DeVitto,
Billy Joel’s
drummer of many years, paid a special
visit to Public School
C.E.S
58X where
he showed
a group of thirty plus students a thing
or two about playing drums. In addition
to giving them
some pointers
and answering
their many
questions, he also performed with the
students in an impromptu jam session.
Students were also treated to a visit
from the popular NYC band, TurnStyle.
This was Liberty’s second visit to a Little Kids
Rock classroom and, this time, he helped deliver new
guitars, basses, keyboards
and drum equipment. These instruments (and many others)
were purchased with funds raised by "Band Together
NYC IV," a recent
benefit concert held in New York City (click
here to see concert photos). The concert’s
headliner was Liberty’s
newest band, Hit Squad, a group that consists of musicians
from some
of the best known bands in Rock and Roll, including:
Ricky Byrd (Joan Jett and The Blackhearts), Joe
Lynn Turner (Deep
Purple,
Rainbow), Richie Cannata (Billy Joel, Beach Boys) and
Will Lee (The David Letterman Band). Here are some videos
and images from the day...thanks to Liberty, Hit Squad
and our event sponsors.
