The Big Man's Legacy Honored; 10,000 Kids Will Receive Right to Rock!

Maureen and Steven Van Zandt, the Clemons family, Billy Squier, Matt White, Lady Gaga and many others support music education nonprofit, Little Kids Rock

Clarence Clemons' spirit filled the room, and the crowd erupted in applause as it stood to cheer the band that had just rocked the stage with a spine tingling rendition of Lady Gaga's The Edge of Glory... and that band was made up of kids! Video

More than 300 people gathered at the Edison Ballroom on Thursday evening at the third annual Right to Rock benefit and raised over $300,000 for Little Kids Rock. That means more than 10,000 children who may otherwise not have access to music education will now receive the right to rock... Little Kids Rock style! Photo Gallery

The evening's success was in large part due to the supporters and artists who helped make October 20, 2011 a night to remember: Presenting sponsor Bedell Guitars, Event co-chairs Maureen and Steven Van Zandt and Evan Harrison, Jake and Victoria Clemons and the Clemons family, Billy Squier, Matt White, and the Little Kids Rock students and teachers.

But perhaps the biggest supporter in the room was the man who was there in spirit, Clarence "The Big Man" Clemons, in whose name the annual "Big Man of the Year" award was presented to Lady Gaga, who said, "So may The Big Man live on forever. There is no edge when it comes to Clarence's glory."

Before he passed away earlier this year, the late E Street Band saxophonist was a key supporter of Little Kids Rock, a nonprofit organization that has provided free instruments and free lessons to more than 160,000 low-income children in public schools throughout the United States.
